The Pancake Bakery

A cheap Dutch pancake restaurant in the Canal Zone of Amsterdam

The name says it all: This canalside joint does one thing only—pannekoeken—and it does it phenomenally well, and in more than 75 varieties.

Your meal may be one of these fluffy disks topped with Cajun chicken or curried turkey and pineapple; for dessert, fruit compotes, syrups, and ice cream are typical pancake stuffings.

The decor is simple and slightly rustic, but in summer join the crowds (and the syrup-seeking bees) at the long outside tables with a canal view.
