A marketplace hole-in-the-wall eatery in Munich

Restaurant Zum Alten Markt, München
Outdoor dining.
This marketplace hole-in-the-wall offers finely observed Bavarian food in a 400-year-old decor lifted from a Tyrolean castle.

The chef makes good use of the fresh ingredients available at his doorstep in the Viktualienmarkt by concocting such dishes as black truffle tortellini in a cream sauce.

However, the undisputed star here is much more classic: tafelspitz, the archetypal Austro-Bavarian boiled beef dish that was the favorite food of Emperor Franz Josef I.
