Planning FAQ

Naples doesn't lack for hotels—but it is hard to find excellent values on inexpensive yet nice hotels in convienetly locations.

Here are a few of my favorites ringing in for less than €150 for a double room.

Hotels in Naples for less than €50 [€]

A room at the Hotel Ideal, Naples Hotel Ideal - The name may be a bit of wishful thinking, but this large, clean budget standby is just 200 feet from the train station (and a 10-minute tram ride from the ferry docks), and therefore is, indeed, ideal if you plan on lots of daytrips. It's also a haven of quality and security among many seedy hotels in an often squalid area. It's been family-run for 50 years, and cares about the little things: private baths in the rooms, free WiFi in the bar/lounge area. Piazza Garibaldi 99 (on the left side of the square as you exit the train station)... Reserve it » more

Hotels in Naples for €50–€100 [€€]

A room at the Hotel Rex, NaplesHotel Rex - Set just off the noisy harbor road near the Castel dell'Ovo, the 1960s-era Rex is installed in a Liberty-style building, making it a great bargain in Naples' toniest area (it's directly behind the top hotels in town). The modular pine furnishings, wicker chairs, hideous port-a-lamps, and brown or speckled-green floor tiles hint at the era in which it was built, but everything's been maintained immaculately, save the odd plumbing glitch.Via Palepoli 12 (between Via Nazario Sauro and Via Santa Lucia)... A room at the Hotel Ausonia, Naples Hotel Ausonia - Its position at the back of a harborfront building in the quiet, safe Mergellina neighborhood means you're cheated of an ocean view, but that's also something of a plus since you are spared the traffic noise of the busy seaside boulevard. Instead, windows open onto the courtyard or a noisier back alley, and gauzy curtains graze the marble floors in the breeze. The nautical theme of porthole mirrors and ship’s helm nightstands is admittedly a bit silly—their motto is "A safe harbor in Naples"—but accommodations are comfortable and relatively roomy (for Naples), and the beds are soft but sleep well. Via Caracciolo 11 (at the Mergellina docks)... Reserve it » more
