Rates in Munich bump up whenever a trade fair is in town, rise steadily through the summer tourist season, and spike as high as hoteliers can push them during Oktoberfest. If you don't book well in advance for the city's big keg party, you're going to find yourself either paying through the nose, stuck pretty far from the center, or both.
