This hotel occupies a landmark Renaissance palazzo on one of the city's great squares.
You can live like the nobles of yore in rooms with 15-foot ceilings whose 10-foot windows and oversize antique furniture are proportionately appropriate. (Franco Zeffirelli used it to film some of the scenes in Tea with Mussolini—though that was pre-renovation, back when this was a gloriously dim-lit and delightfully dingy pensione.)
The highlight of this renovated inn is its monumental roofed veranda where you can take breakfast, or just relax and drink in the views over Piazza Santo Spirito.
Old Florentine hands, take note. For decades, this was the ramshackle, well-worn, delightfully dim old Pensione Sorelle Bandini—one of the last remaining true pensioni in the city (all of Italy, in fact). I am a bit sad to see it replaced by this more decidedly upscale inn.
