Da Maurizio, Via Porto Levante (tel. +39-090-985-2426) by the port, serves quite good Sicilian fare and seafood. They're closed late October to Easter.
The restaurant/pizzeria attached to Hotel Lanterna Bleu (Via Lentia 58, tel. +39-090-985-2178) is also rather good.
Da Maurizio
Via Porto Levante. tel. +39-090-985-2426. Open daily. Closed late Oct–Easter.
Most port eateries charge too much and try too little. Not Da Maurizio, which has decent prices on excellent, hearty food in a friendly atmosphere under a garden canopy. They pay close attention to the preparation, from grainy bread made according to a antique recipe to local dessert biscotti to dip in malvasia wine.
In between you might try spaghetti all'Eoliana (with capers, olives, and garlic), riso al curry con verdure (curried rice with vegetables), or the tasty crepes con spinaci e ricotta (pasta leaves wrapped around ricotta and spinach), to be followed up by something simple such as gamberi (local shrimp), frittura di pesce (fish fry), or involtini di carne (tiny veal rolls wrapped around cheese). Be careful if you stray from the set menu, however, as the bill can mount up quickly; wine is over-priced.
