Nuraghe Mannu is the remains of a 3,500-year-old settlement set in a grove of wild olives overlooking the coast.
This small but scenic archaeological site sits right at Cala Gonone's doorstep, about two miles down a side road halfway up the road to Dorgali.
The main attraction at Nuraghe Mannu is a squat prehistoric tower built of dark gray basalt stone, stacked without mortar and spotted with lichen.
There is little else to see at the site but some overgrown low stone walls, but the volunteer staffers at the ticket kiosk are full of information about the site and the Nuraghic culture in general, and are eager to share their knowledge.
