This house near the top of the Spanish Steps once belonged to a pair of baroque painters and brothers, Taddeo and Frederico Zuccari (the latter most noted for his frescoes in the Florence cathedral dome).
In 1592, they decided to have their palazetto fitted out with gaping, monstrous mouths for doors and windows.
If nothing else, the kids will probably dig it.
The palazzo now hosts the Biblioteca Hertziana Max Plank Institute for Art History library (www.biblhertz.it), open to academics Mon-Fri 9am–6pm.
It is otherwise closed to the general public except for tours roughly twice a month.
