The Parlamento has long offered that Holy Grail of hostelries: four-star class at two-star prices.
It's sandwiched between the Corso (Rome's main drag) and Piazza San Silvestro (a major city bus terminus), but don’t be put off by the heavy street traffic. The hotel went ahead and installed double sets of double-glazed windows, which are pretty effective in dampening the noise.
It's also a primo location, bang in the center of the historic center (on the border between the Tridente and Upper Tiber Bend neighborhoods). Pick any direction to walk from the front door and within ten minutes, fifteen tops, you'll come to some major sight: the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia, Via Veneto, or Augustus' Mausoleum and the Ara Pacis.
The staff takes it professionalism seriously.
The rooms are furnished in a combo of antiques and reproductions, the firm beds backed by carved wood or wrought-iron headboards.
The trompe-l'oeil'ed breakfast room is lovely, or you can carry your cappuccino to the small roof terrace with a view of San Silvestro's bell tower.
Though the terrace can be shared by all guests, there is a trio of rooms that open right onto it; they have Jacuzzi tubs and cost a bit extra.

In January, 2011, Rome began charging a hotel bed tax. This is the city's doing, and sadly it is not a scam.
The following tax rates are per person, per night for all guests over the age of 10 and can be charged for stays of up to 10 days:
So a couple staying three nights in a four-star room would pay an extra €18.
Some hotels have begun folding this tax into their quoted rates; others tack it on when you go to check out, so be prepared.
Planning your day: Rome wasn't built in a day, and you'd be hard-pressed to see it in that brief a time as well. Still, you can cram a lot into just a day or three.
