Books I have written for Frommer’s, DK/Eyewitness, Dummies, and more
Travel guidebooks are a strange niche. Every year or two you get to revisit them to craft new edition, which means not only adding new reviews and recommendations and updating the mountains of practical information and, but also an opportunity to rewrite, expand, and edit any part. Each edition really does count as its own book, but in truth it’s the same basic material changing incrementally over time.
All that to say: effectively I have written 12 titles—even if, once you add up all the editions of each, I have more than 25 distinct book credits to my name. Of course, unlike, say, fiction, these books have a distinct shelf life. So here I will showcase the most recent edition of each book I wrote or updated. (The page for each book indicates how many total editions I produced, and the span of publication years.)
Given the vagaries of the publishing industry, some of these books (or even entire series) don’t exist any more, while others are chugging along with newer editions that have long since been handed off to others to update. For the record, the only travel guidebook I am currently updating for each edition is Frommer’s Philadelphia Day-by-Day.
