For years, the Catalano family's modernized hotel with 19th-century roots has been the best hotel in Erice.
Traditional hand-woven runners line the halls and stairs, and room furnishings are bent wood and wicker, with brass bedsteads with antique dressers.
Floors are tiled or, as in the 14 rooms of the "new wing" (still an old building) across the street, carpeted, and almost all have minibar.
Those with balconies on the street have the best people-watching but the most noise (not that it's raucous).
Their dining room is actually the best-regarded restaurant in town, although a meal will set you back a good little bit—making the hotel's half-pension deals quite attractive.
