Gnocchi. This splurge is one of Sicily's best restaurants, certainly Siracusa's finest, and so staunchly traditional the menu's written entirely in dialect.
The setting is especially romantic: on a curving terrace lined with blown-glass lamps 50 feet above the soft surf lapping against the rocks with a sweeping vista of the Ionian sea and Ortigia.
For primo, try the traditional Siracusan spaghetti c'a muddica e anciovi (with grated bread and anchovies), or their specialty spaghetti co tunnu friscu (with fresh tuna, tomatoes, and capers).
The kitchen's best secondi are bistecca a siciliana (steak smothered with tuna, onion, and cheese) and orata 'c'aranciu (gilt-head bream cooked with orange juice, orange zest, and white wine). Meat eaters may prefer the custati ri agneddu panate (breaded mutton chops).
There's a less formal pizzeria up on the open-air roof.
