Pompeii is considered as one of the most significant historic vestiges of Roman civilization. Following the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D., the city has re-emerged from centuries of darkness and layers of ash, bringing to light a fascinating picture of daily life. Departing from and returning to your hotel, this tour takes you back in time, starting with a visit to the archaeological site at Pompeii.
Next stop will be La Cantina del Vesuvio Winery, located in the National Park of Vesuvius at the base of the volcano, an area well-known for its rich, volcanic soil that is perfect for growing grapes. Here you'll visit the vineyards and olive groves of the winery before tasting some of their outstanding wines. Wine is produced here in three classic versions: Lacryma Christi of the Vesuvius DOC red, rose' and white. A lunch of traditional dishes carefully prepared using genuine, local products will follow
The three Doric temples at Paestum are said to be the best-preserved Greek temples in the world. These magnificent monuments date back to the 6th and 5th centuries B.C., and are dedicated to the city's namesake Poseidon (also known as Neptune, god of the sea), Hera and Ceres.
Near sandy beaches in a region known for its typical wines and delicious mozzarella di bufala cheese, Paestum is off the beaten tourist path so you can admire these perfect monuments in all their pristine beauty.
Departing from and returning to your hotel on the Amalfi Coast, first stop will be the Tenuta Vannulo, a farm in the heart of the Campania region where mozzarella di bufala is still produced in a very traditional way. You will tour the farm and learn all about the cheese-making process before sitting down to taste the freshly made cheese.
At the winery Marino you will enjoy a selection of Italian specialties accompanied by some of the typical wines of the South. A guided tour of the archaeological site of ancient Paestum and a museum that will give you a feel of life in the Italian countryside completes this full-day excursion that combines history and cuisine of Southern Italy.

Campania is a region that lends itself well to home-basing/day-tripping mode of traveling. The two most convenient bases are the capital city of Naples and package tour–resort town of Sorrento.
Sorrento offers very little to see in town itself, but is better positioned for the Amalfi Coast and Capri, and is considerably safer and cleaner than Naples as a city.
Naples has a wealth of sightseeing and is cheaper. Base in whichever is closer to your own day-tripping dreams, or spend a few nights in each for ultimate convenience.
