An upscale hotel in the Canal Zone of Amsterdam

One of the best values in chic canalside living, the Toren has medium-sized rooms in two buildings on a posh stretch of canal.

The furnishings are worn, but the staff is very helpful, and there's even a cute (read: floral prints) little guest house available for extra privacy.

Insist on a room overlooking the canal; some of the cramped rooms in the hotel's heart don't even have windows.
