This small hotel of small but nice rooms—many with timbered ceilings, rough plaster walls, bricked up fireplaces, and other ancient mementos of this building's age (it was built in 1594)—opened in the spring of 2017 right across from the Museum of Oxford.
The bold shiny-black-and-gold decor may not be for everyone, and the lack of hotel staff makes others uncomfortable (you use key pads to get in and out), but it is a steal for the comfort, quiet, and location.
Reqeust a room downstairs if the tight Victorian spiral staircase will present diffculties.
