The Pelham ★★☆
The Pelham is an oasis of tranquility in a busy road hub in South Kensington, mere steps from a Tube stop and blocks from the shopping of Brompton Road
Tom and Kit Kemp love antiques, and she is an interior decorator who has given each room its individual style, the beds piled high with pillows, the walls sheathed in carefully chosen rich fabrics.
Some are post-modern with canvas bed canopies, others old fashioned house-in-the-country style with chintz eiderdown comforters frilled with antique lace, or like no. 206 with contemporary geometric tapestries as wall fabrics.
The suites feel nothing like a hotel and everything like your own London flat—nos. 102 and 103 have large rooms with high stuccoed ceilings and oils on the walls, marble fireplaces, deep couches and floral curtains, a king-sized bed in 103 (no. 102 has a four-poster queen), and double sinks in the granite marble baths.
There's an Ye Olde English–styled front lounge for afternoon tea, a more modern back lounge with contemporary art on the walls and an honesty bar, and a downstairs restaurant serving modern British cuisine.
There's a friendly concierge and 24-hour room service.
