This London School of Economics dorm is in a low brick tower right behind the Tate Modern museum.

Rooms—singels, twins, triples, quads—are institutional but comfortable enough, with private en suite bathrooms, toiletries (not always a given in dorms), a tea kettle, daily housekeeping, and free WiFi. (There are some bathless singles available, which share a communal bathroom on the hall.)

Rates include a surprisingly good breakfast buffet.

Common facilities include a game room, a communal TV room, and a coin-operated laundromat.

It does come with a few quirks. The water in the bathrooms is not potable, so you have to bring bottles and refill from the kitchens. The staff can be a bit diffident. There's no A/C—there's no reason, really, as these aren't serving their primary purpose (as student dorms) in summer anyway, but it does mean that on hot days it can get stuffy and stifling.

Then again, Bankside House is a cheap room within walking distance of all of Bankside's attractions, from the Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre to the buslting Borough Market and St Paul's in The City just across the Millennium Bridge.
