Rocco Forte Brown's Hotel ★★☆
This classy Mayfair hotel has been popular with writers since 1937 and hosts one of London's most traditional afternoon teas
One of London's best afternoon teas is held in the Drawing Room of Brown's, a venerable 1837 favorite of writers (Agatha Christie's At Bertram's Hotel takes place at Brown's, and Rudyard Kipling finished The Jungle Book here), potentates (Napoleon III, Queen ), and presidents (Teddy Roosevelt stayed here while getting married).
Sir Rocco Forte took over management in 2004 and throroughly renovated everything.
Rooms are modernized, but in teh higher end rooms cover it well with a vaguely belle Èpoque decor of inlaid wood furnishings, tapestry curtains, and stuccoed grotesques on the ceilings.
The hotel is large—117 rooms—but the staff so discreetly accommodating and the common rooms so classy you feel as if you're staying at a tiny boutique inn.
