William Hogarth
An English painter in the Flemish mold, depicting wonderful slices of life in early 18C England
William Hogarth (1697-1764) took his hint from the Flemish masters, creating Jan Steen–like scenes of everyday life.
His serial engravings such as Rake's Progress (in London's Sir John Soane Museum) were popular morality tales presented in a sort of early version of a comic strip.
