A dark, brooding Expressionist focused on man's foibles

Francis Bacon (1909-92) was a dark, brooding Expressionist who used traditional formats such as the triptych to show man's foibles rather than the usual holy virtues.

("Francis Bacon" was also a famous late 16C/early 17C English philosopher, but that's not the guy we're talkng about.)
