A museum dedicated to Bath's most famous resident author and the Regency period in which she lived
The Jane Austen Centre is located in a Georgian town house on an elegant street where Austen once lived.
Exhibits and a video convey a sense of what life was like in Bath during the Regency period when the city's most famous resident author called Bath home.
The fashions, culture, scoeity rituals, and food of Bath's Regency era inspired Austen's books—notably the two set in Bath, her last novel, Persuasion, and her first (unpublished) work, Northanger Abbey (written in 1803, reworked in 1816, and finally published after her death in 1817).
There are Regency costumes to put on, exhibits on the period, a wax model of Jane Austen herself (writing, naturally) made by a forensic sculptor, a Regency-themed Tea Room upstairs, and lovely rooftop views.
