Pontormo (Jacopo Carrucci; 1494-1556) - One of the greatest mannerists, Pontormo was a student of Andrea del Sarto and was perhaps the weirdest colorist of the movement, finding his muse in oranges, turquoises, pinks, and mauves. His figures are as powerful in form and expression as they are odd and twisted, and his compositions often verge on the chaotic side of complexity. In Florence, see his masterpiece Deposition in Santa Felicità, paintings in SS. Annunziata, and several works in the Uffizi.
