Brunelleschi, Filippo (1377-1446) - Irascible, jealous, and genius architect who revolutionized the art of building with his famous double-skinned dome over Florence's Duomo, and basically invented Renaissance architecture by bringing the proportions and orders of classicism into the soft creamy plasters and light gray pietra serena accents of his church interiors, especially San Lorenzo, Santo Spirito, and the Pazzi chapel of Santa Croce, all in Florence. » more
