Dragon Bridge, Ljubljana, Slovenia
The Art Nouveau Zmajski most (Dragon Bridge) features Ljubljana's ubiquitous symbol, the dragon which was slain on this spot by none other than Jason (of Argonauts fame), back when Ljubljana was mostly just a big swamp. (What this legend fails to explain is just how Jason ended up sailing up the Ljubljanica River; if he really did happen by here on his way back from the quest for the Golden Fleece, the dude weas an even worse navigator than Odysseus.) Sure, the slaying of dragons plays a part in the origin myths of many cities all across the Slavic world, but in defense of Ljubljana's civic pride, I should point out that a recent archaeologcial dig under the castle turned up a small golden dragon pin that was thousands of years old—so it's not as if the locals are Johnny-come-latelies to the whole dragon theme.
