Slovenes watching the telecast of Pope John Paul II's funeral on a big-screen TV just behind the cathedral. The interesting thing was—and the angles were all wrong to capture this on film—that this TV was set up just a few feet from the cathedral's doors, which were cast in honor of the pope's visit in 1996. This led to an odd juxtaposition: the recently departed pontiff, his wan little smile frozen in bronze, gripped a "windowsill" at the top of the doors so he could lean out and gaze in benediction over the crowd—which on this day happened to be gathered below to watch his funeral.
